ACTIVITIES and ATTRACTIONS

There is much to see and do in Haywood County and western North Carolina. Waynesville and Maggie Valley offer many activities and attractions from “downtown USA” to mountain valley to mountain top.  Forty percent of the county is federal land, protected by the US Forest Service and the National Park Service, including the eastern portion of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Pisgah National Forest. There are 46 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway in the county and 100 miles of parkway within a 40 minute drive.  Just 28 miles down the mountains to the east is Asheville or to the west is Cherokee. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are just down the Pigeon River from River Woods.  Attractions in the area are Ghost Town, Wheels through Time Museum, Biltmore Estate, Dollywood and many others. Activities include fishing, hunting, golfing, horseback riding, rafting, skiing, bicycling, hiking and camping.
